Weekly Playlist: Oct 22nd

What follows is a brief preview of the ear tickling goodies that have been inside my head lately.

This Vancouver based 5 piece writes songs that are fun, pop oriented, Canadian indie rock. The new album is a nicely produced little dandy of a project, that should propel this lesser known band to higher levels of prominence, hopefully. Check em out live as they are currently on tour across Canada.

Release Date: October 2009

When I found out this guy is the hands behind Butch Cassidy Sound System, it became clear to me that this project a sure shot. Pablo delivers 27 tracks of hip-hop/funk/breaks spanning over 2 CDs, woven with great latin, surf, jazz, etc., samples. Varied production styles is what makes this release so interesting. Surprisingly not on Ninja Tune, where the sound would have been familiar amongst the likes of Coldcut, Amon Tobin and Kid Koala, but rather on scottish electro label SOMA.

This album is one that delighted me upon first listen. Through the layered noise and heavy percussive production, emerges blissful melodies, like if you could see the dreamscape of endless stars beyond black clouds of terror... Reminds me of The Field with a more progressive line and, well, more NOISE! Check out Daniel Marner's in depth review of this album at The Line Best of Fit.
