And the winners are...

Thanks to some liveblogging via twitter and cbcradio3.com, we pretty well know who won the important awards at last night's Juno Private Gala, the banquet event where they give out most of the Juno before the lights and cameras of the Sunday night major label wank fest. Here is my analysis of what transpired.

The Stills somehow managed to go home with two Junos, one for best new band (yes, laugh all you want, I sure did), beating the over hyped Beast, the best band of the year, Plants & Animals and Crystal Castles. They beat Plants & Animals (+ Fucked up, Black Mountain and Chad Vangaalen!) again for best Alternative record of the year.

For the best Dance album of the year, Toronto's uber electro champion Deadmau5 takes the cake. No surprise there after a quick glance at who he was up against.

Winnipeg's Chic Gamine wins the best roots and traditionnal album by a group. A huge surprise considering the group's indie status, as they were up against the mighty Duhks and Elliot Brood. We anticipate an epic bidding war between rumored mega indie label Rounder Records and other interested parties to begin shortly.

Since there is no Electronic focused award at the Junos, DJ Brace ended up being nominated for best instrumental album of the year, up against a strings quartet, an innuit throat singer and an instrumental rock band from Vancouver. He ends up taking the prize in what some people couls say was a *huge* upset. Sarcasm. Big up to the Balanced Records crew!!

Check the official Junos website for more and cbcradio3's live blog we were all following closely last night. See you next year!
