So hey, "Yes We Can" and "America needs change" etc etc... For all those of you who actualy believed in this nonsense, yesterday we were confirmed that smoke and mirrors are used by both parties in American politics when Obama appointed Hilary Clinton as Secretary of State and kept Robert Gates as head of Defence, the guy Bush put in place to enforce his arrogant foreign policy. Nothing's changed! Well, at least we can hope Obama will adopt more left leaning doctrines for his health care and social policies. But we may yet again be surprised.
But hey who cares about that, for once we have more exciting things happening on our federal political landscape. The drama is so exciting that I am watching CPAC as I write this. You know, that channel we always flip through quickly always asking ourselves "who the hell actualy watches this". Well surprise surprise, here I am finaly watching this because it's entertaining as hell.
I support this coalition, for the simple fact that it is making our federal policies finaly somewhat interesting. And no matter the outcome, it will cause major changes to our federal landscape. Changes that are desperately needed.
Until then, the mud slinging will go on.
The conservatives, may I add, make me laugh. The way they seek of the "separatists" makes them sound like they are commies or terrorists that seek to DESTROY CANADA! But the truth is that in this context, they simply represent an alternative for Quebec voters, depicting on capital hill the interests of those who feel are not represented by any of the other federal political parties. It's true though, that their ultimate goal is to disconnect themselves from Canada. But this is a sign that they are capable of placing these things aside to help their electorate through hard times. When we are in better shape economically, then the constitutional debates may be adopted. Right?
Harper dug his own grave, his political career is coming to an end. He failed on the environment, he failed on culture and the arts, and now he fails on the economy. He needs to be thrown out!
Ô Canada.
how can you support a coalition that circumvents democracy and makes a mockery of our country? This would be just like John Mccain claiming the presidency for himself because he doesnt like the policies by Obama. This whole coalition came about because Harper wanted to cut the nearly 30million in tax payer funded subsidies for political parties, an idea that was put into motion to curb unnecessary spending that could be better used on our economy, and yet you claim that he is failing the Canadian economy? Not to mention I wonder what would have happened if Dion had announced the liberals intentions to join a coalition during the election, considering that one of his big points in the closing weeks of the election was that he WASN'T going to join any sort of coalition..... so you tell me who really is unfit to lead this country, the party who wants to curb spending by taking money out of their OWN pockets as well as other parties, or the power hungry coalition that wants to go against the wishes of the voting Canadians, and who lie to the people
ReplyDeletehahaha John McCain? circumventing democracy??? you are clearly confused as WE didn't elect a conservative government, it just happened they had enough seats to form one. What the coalition is doing is perfectly legal, we'll just have to see what the GG says tomorrow morning.
ReplyDeletefirst off, great post.
ReplyDeleteas for 'circumventing democracy'.. this kind of thing is actually completely constitutional, but has just never happened before. harper planned to cut funding to the parties, which seemed like a good idea, except to all of the parties that depend on that money for existence. do you really think the green party having to fold because they were all of a sudden denied the funding they earned by having 680,000 people vote for them is 'democratic'? i dont think so. a liberal-ndp coalition means that 56% of those who chose to vote are now represented in a power position, (liberals 26% + ndp 18% + bloc 10%) rather than the conservatives who represent 38%. people who are calling this a 'coup' or 'undemocratic' neglect to understand that plenty of countries (germany, new zealand, ireland, switzerland) have coalition governments because they represent the majority. we should applaud these three parties for agreeing to cooperate, and get something accomplished for our country.
Ok while I will give it to you that I may have been a little heavy handed when I said circumventing democracy, you are still completely wrong that this coalition is a good idea. You say that 56% of the people will be represented by this coalition and you also say that a conservative government wasn't elected, yet tell me when was this coalition elected? It certainly wasn't in this last election because these parties didn't RUN as a coalition... see how that works? Do you really think the liberals would have gotten any votes if they ran on a platform of cooperating with the sovereignists? or the socialists? And I'm not up on the green party, but did they even receive 5% of the vote? I have no idea but if they didn't then they don't even qualify for that money, and its not like they even do anything with that money... how many seats do they hold again?
ReplyDeleteAnd how much will really be accomplished by these lunatics if they do get into power? roughly the equivalent of nothing
